Tree Prism

Privacy

The short version: your family tree stays on your device. Tree Prism has no accounts, no cookies, no analytics, no ads, and no third-party scripts.

Your file

When you open a GEDCOM file, your browser reads and processes it right on your computer. The file is never uploaded. The site’s security policy doesn’t let the page send your data anywhere.

What your browser keeps

Your settings, such as the chart you last opened and how names are shown, are saved in your browser’s local storage, so the site opens the way you left it.

If “Remember the tree in this browser” is ticked (it is by default), the tree itself is saved in your browser’s storage so you can pick up where you left off. Untick the box and the saved copy is deleted right away.

None of this is sent to us or anyone else. To erase everything, clear this site’s data in your browser settings.

Our server

The site is a set of static files served from a Hetzner data center in Helsinki, Finland. The server keeps no record of your visits: no IP addresses, no list of pages you opened. If a request fails with a server error, a technical log entry (which may include an IP address) is kept for troubleshooting and deleted automatically within ten weeks.

Donations and email

The Support button takes you to Ko-fi, a separate service with its own privacy policy. If you donate, we see only what Ko-fi shows us about the donation. If you email us, we see your address and message and use them only to reply.

Newsletter

The newsletter link takes you to Substack. If you subscribe, Substack stores your email address and sends the letters under its own privacy policy. Tree Prism never sees your address.

Contact
